If you are a bust...let's say you got that one big contract...and then you are out of the league...that means you will not be getting anymore of that nfl money...
let's say you get 23 million over 5 years...
Uncle Sam is talking a minimum of 35% of that...and that is really generous...that leaves you with about 14.9 mill...
Your agent is gonna get let's say...again generous...10 % of your guaranteed money...that leaves you with 13.4...not bad, but you haven't spent any of it yet and you are down to about half of wait you made...
Now you buy the house...you buy your family a house...you buy the cars...you buy the jewelry...let's say you go conservative for your lifestyle...2 mil house for you...2 mil house for your family ( mom, dad, siblings)...you got to pay property taxes every year...those are prob gonna run you a 100,000 or more for each house...no mansion...if you making money like that you pro feel like you need a mansion...
factor in maybe another 200,000 on cars ( you got the whole 9, rims, dvd in the cup holder...everything )
Uh oh, you got some chick at king of diamonds pregnant...her comes that child support...you lucky though because she only had that one kid...
Uh oh, you getting sued because someone around you chokeslam a bytch through a table...hope you got a good lawyer...
Now you are a bust and out of the league...you are not getting another nfl check, and you are not getting on tv or anything...because you were a bust...nobody wants to hear you talk about football...nikka u sucked...
Even if you payed the house off in full...you still got those taxes everywhere...you still got that child support...
The issue with the money thing is people look at it from the perspective they have now, if course you would be set for life, because you are used to living off of 10's of thousands of dollars...but if you were an nfl player...you would be used to living off of millions of dollars, and probably spend accordingly...plus. you prob wouldn't know you were a bust... you prob would be like "i'll just take a little less money and then prove myself on my next deal"...
