Burna Boy wanted to do a free concert over there and Ibrahim basically said thanks, but no thanks.

If Africa (Burkina Faso at least) is to grow and compete on the world stage, then he's right. There's a reason China limits the social media b.s. but pushes it for the rest of the world.

We gotta grow and come into our own at some point.

Above the fray.
For more context about his comments.
The date of the OP story was 10/15/25

A few days earlier, Oct 9-10, his govt held an international investment forum. He laid out the new rules going forward about trade and foreign investment.
The old "you pimp us for our resources, bribe sellout govt officials, and we make pennies" days are over.
Traore noticed the international interests who are "scared" to do fair business with them in terms of commerce/tech, but who are not scared to back entertainment ventures out of the same country

The biggest resources that Burkina, and many African countries have, is their growing youth population. And his public comments in OP likely mirrors the school curriculum changes that have been implemented to protect that resource and steer them in the direction that benefits them in the future, and not outside interests.

If you can find an accurate subtitled vid or article of the event, you can read his full comments for yourselves

There's a 60 minutes segment on Tik Tok in china vs Tik Tok for the rest of the world. The Chinese algorithm is education based while the algorithm they give the rest of the world is celebrity gossip, people getting hurt in funny accidents, mukbangs, etc.

They polled kids from different countries about what they wanted to be when they grow up and the Chinese kids were saying this like Engineer, Physicist, Biologist and the American kids were all saying an influencer. If you let that play out in the next 20 years the US will be fukked. It's psychological warfare which is why Trump wants to own it.

So called "entertainment " is and has been a means of influencing the thought and behavior of the masses. The US' influence is clearly in decline and its attempted corraling of Afrobeats is a means of reasserting itself, among other things

In the booth i connected the pushing of afrobeats to geostrategy and got shut down on some patriotic nearsightedness

To limit what is and isn't currently featured in commercial media to a manner of talent and creativity is to completely miss the gravity of the moment we are in... but that's where popular discourse is unfortunately

Even if we imbued the children with the imagination of such careers an infrastructural pipeline would have to be in place to fufill such outcomes. That damn sure aint the case in American public education. We dont even have to consider the poor performers. We can center those that are doing well (on paper) and what they arent capable of

The American education system is decrepit from the top to bottom. The teacher certification schools themselves are poor performing! Chances are , the instructors of these hard sciences aren't even competent... too often enough they aren't even credentialed to instruct children in their assigned subject

Tik tok can help... i guess. But these are intense generations deep structural issues . Conversations about American education tend to not go far beyond stereotypes about certain demographics.. its much more severe and far reaching than that

You're not wrong but what your daily influences play a big part in trajectory.

American schools are there to create drones. They use the highly intelligent kids to round out the numbers that the below average kids bring. There's pipelines to certain careers but access isn't always there. Depending on location, most people can't get into a pipeline until college-age.

Agreed fully

Especially on the pipeline tip. Certain professional trajectories have to be deliberately primed well in advance of college .

For instance, to excell in a medical academic trajectory you have to be versed in medical language. Medical language is it's own specialized field of literacy so it isnt simply a matter of if one can read or write well. High performing students from high performing schools drop of of pre med course loads behind this.

Now to be versed in medical language requires certain high school classes, which would have required certain classes before that etc etc. Its why medical professions tend to be legacy professions as in their parents were in the field as well and walked them through the game.

A pipeline that begins in college is too late for the general public school population regardless of background, hence the results we workin with. The us already has a crisis level shortage of doctors and its projected to become catastrophic shortly . This is just a single field in crisis... there are several

This forum developed a "both sides " dismissive mantra , but these conditions have been building for generations

And 20 years from now people will be questioning how Indians and Asians are dominating the medical field. It's a delicate balance between wasting resources on the wrong people and getting the resources to the right ones though. We shouldn't except kids to know exactly what they want to do in life but America needs to push the ones that do if they want to stay competitive.
