I’m not completely against it. Other people can be both the best and the worst parts of life.
Also ascetics isolating themselves from others as a spiritual practice is about as old as the history of man. The Buddha attained enlightenment from meditation in solitude. A lot of ancient philosophers and religions practiced asceticism and some variation of isolation for spiritual purposes.
It’s not for everybody, or probably even for any one person to do for their entire life, but I don’t think a little isolation in doses is bad. Could actually help a lot of folks who avoid facing themselves by distracting themselves with others.
