He has a higher ceiling than Peterson. Peterson is who he is and he won’t get much better than what he is now.

AJ also isn’t a coward who is afraid to play in big games and has to be put on a minutes restriction as a 19 year old.
This a crazy ass thing to say about a 19 year old lol

Dybantsa is someone you can give the ball to the entire game and let him run your offense. The playmaking is real. If you watch him he’s always looking to pass.

Peterson’s passing chops and feel for running an offense weren’t as advanced as I thought. You also need your lead guard to be durable. If the main guy running your offense is often injured then your team never gets chemistry or builds it incredibly slowly.

I said the same thing about Luka coming in. His skill set was crazy polished coming in, and the only thing that’s happened to his game is that he’s gotten less athletic over the years. He’s more or less the same player as when he came in besides being slower.

Peterson has the same issue. There’s not much room for growth in his game, as opposed to AJ who is a legit 6’9 and still has a lot to expand on offense (similar to Cooper Flagg).

Not to say Peterson won’t be a good NBA player, but he’s basically nearing his peak.

Luka had athletic limitations so his ceiling was always rooted in him becoming a better shooter, peterson doesn't have those issue.

What you're saying is you give projects and raw players higher upside variables, while that may be true their is tons of examples of them never reaching that potential. Peterson has a lot of growing to do himself, he can be significantly better from midrange and getting to the line. I dont think he's anywhere near his ceiling. If Peterson was a 6'3 guard with smaller wingspan I'd agree, he's a 6'6 guard with a +5 wingpsan

I've never seen him play but it's a smart take to say young players will never improve.(Even though it's ridiculous to say out loud )

Because only the elite of the elite will prove you wrong. Everybody else ends up with the same flaws they showed up with.

People expect too much improvement, it's players that have never been able to shoot for example and they'll still say "if his shot comes around he'll be elite".

Why has he never worked on it before today

AJ is far from raw or a project. You can see he’s scratching the surface of what he can be on both ends, but he’s already very smart IQ wise. Most projects don’t have that.

Peterson is closer to 6’5 (at best). He’s 3 or key player (like most kids today) so him becoming some type of mid-range demon doesn’t seem to be in the cards for him. That’s just not how he was raised to play the game.

Add in the injury concerns (worst case scenario) or blatant smoke ducking (best case scenario, but still a red flag), I’m taking AJ first overall.
