ASAP is fakkits. They are plants. They stole Purrp and the South's style. Rocky album came out in January and still aint went gold. Ferg is ok but his album went brick. The machine will try to keep them alive for a couple more albums but they will fade soon enough... They don't have a loyal cult fanbase like OF.

suddenly is definitely a standout on his LP. Rocky has a way of rapping about nothing, you get to the end of a song and ask yourself "what was he even talking about". I enjoy his music, but his skill and music doesn't live up to his manufactured meteoric rise, like dude came outta no where with all this praise and you can tell its not organic by the lack of fukks given by the listeners. When you couple that with him being pushed as the frontman and a clearly southern influence ferg being pushed second, it makes people not really care about the rest of the crew (tho I personally like Nast...then twelvy...ant is garbage)

I don't see how biting 1 or 2 elements of Houston IN THEIR PRODUCTION (on a few songs) is biting Houston (which you generalize to the South somehow). ASAP sounds New York as fukk.
Just cause Outkast had some scratching, multis, punchlines, boom bap drums and shyt on their records didn't make them New York biters.

Just cause Ice Cube had NY production on Amerikkkas most wanted, didn't make him a NY biter. shyt was still Cali to the max.

Read Asap Rocky's lyrics. Talking about Choppaz (NO lingo), gold slugs (Miami lingo), lean (Screw) over Trap production? :stopitslime:

Me too, the minimalism lets the lyrics shine
yup, i was really focused on the lyrics from the first time i heard it plus it really captured the feeling of the lyrics. gloomy yet hint of hope. like a dude who found a way to get out of hell. Like he finally figured out the purpose of his trials and tribulations up to that point. like i said, love the beat and the song and i don't even listen to ASAP.

Trap production? I have only got his only mixtape and only album and there is no trap production. BOth of them are produced by East Coast producers (and Spaceghostpurp).
He's said he fukks with Houston, he made 1 song dedicated to them on his first mixtape. Grills is a classic NY thing which died of and later jacked by Houston (don't know how it's Miami).

I mean choppaz, everyone in the country uses mad different words for things like guns, weed etc. Give me a rapper and I think I can find a song in which he uses the slang.
I mean are nikkas biting NO if they say Bling? :childplease:.

He's of the new generation, the internet generation. Where cats in Cali could fukk with Dipset, cats in the south could fukk with The Game, cats in the NY could fukk with No Limit. It's not the 90s anymore.

Alright, G. If you say so. I have no dog in this fight as he will be irrelevant in a year or two. Other rappers pay homage while dude clearly stole his whole style.

Or would you give them more of a chance?

Just wondering cause it seems a lot of people on here don't fukk with them cause they ain't got that typical NY sound and are seen as biters of the south. i think if Rocky, or Twelvy came out with a mixtape or someshyt like this, they could easily add onto their fanbase with the people who don't really fukk with them for that sole reason. It's not like Rocky can't rap, he proved that on his most recent flex appearance with the mob.. and Twelvyy is just nice, imo.

(idk if this the full version, but this supposed to be the first single of the mob album)

I think ASAP should do what they feel and the fans should listen to what they like.

I realize these posts are old af but fukk it:

the whole appeal of Rocky to me was that he wasn't on that typical NY shyt but was still makin fire music with a Harlem nikka's touch

Exactly. Other regions styles/sounds mixed with grooves of Screw and East Coast boom bap in Harlem fashion.

In fact, when Rocky starts doing typical NY shyt, it's such a turn off. And I come from the era when NY was the realest. That Jay Reed track is terrible.

Innovate, don't stagnate is my motto.

the rest of them ASAP nikkas besides Ferg I don't really care for outside of lil verses here and there. The nikkas mad that they don't make typical "NY sounding music" (whatever that means) are totally irrelevant. Why would you want to put an artist in a creative prison?

but this is a common misconception. Their flagship producers was Clams Casino and Ty Beats, SpaceghostPurp literally produced 1 song on Rocky debut mixtape.

it was only a handful of songs that had that h-town sound. Rocky most popular tracks don't even sound like that.

also that h-town sound hadn't been popular for a long time when Rocky decided to incorporate it into his own style

overall, you're totally on point.

I don't see how biting 1 or 2 elements of Houston IN THEIR PRODUCTION (on a few songs) is biting Houston (which you generalize to the South somehow). ASAP sounds New York as fukk.

Cali to the max.

I realize I'm responding to this almost 2 years after the fact, but this entire post needs to be stickied somewhere.

nikkas who complain about Rocky biting the South don't know shyt about the South nor have done their hip hop homework.

shyt on Rocky but accept guys like Erick Sermon and Masta Ace who were essentially playing with other coasts styles, brehs.

Alright, G. If you say so. I have no dog in this fight as he will be irrelevant in a year or two. Other rappers pay homage while dude clearly stole his whole style.

I sense bitterness here. And you're almost entirely off base because Rocky is still quite relevant.

If he releases good material on this next album, he'll stamp himself on hip hop. No two ways about it. and cats like yourselves will show how behind the curve you were to begin with.
