No she'd be Monica/brandy/mya status in the music game. Maybe she would've carved a strong acting career, but like everyone from the 90's not named beyonce, she'd be well past her prime - musically.

Nope, she wasn't even popping like that when she was alive.
I can't think of an artist that has had their legacy more altered by dying than Aaliyah. She was a decent artist and had a good career, but to hear people talk about her you would think she was Janet Jackson or somebody when she was alive.
If she hadn't died she wouldn't have been relevant passed the early 2000s. People don't remember, but when her last album came out most people were pretty meh on it. It wasn't until she passed that it took off in popularity.

She was popular but it was different times back then too.
Record labels put millions of dollars behind artists to make them as popular as Beyonce is, and 98% of them don't even get close. And even when they do they don't last long i.e. Lady Gaga.
Whether you like her or not Beyonce has organic qualities that people like, which is why she's so popular. If it was as easy as just having a great team around you every artist that a major label wants to push would be on her level of popularity.

Beyonce's talent and work ethic took her over the top. Yes the machine behind her is the biggest in the game but there's 2 things;
Is Aaliyah on Bey's level vocally?
She is a better natural dancer, but do you see her putting on the shows Bey does?
That's really what it comes down to, especially the latter
