On this site and offline a lot of people already consider Anthony Davis to be the best player in the NBA, so am I making a logical argument when I say that if he truly is the best in the league and we're going to hold him to the same standard as the last two guys to hold that title (LeBron, Kobe) then he HAS to be able to get his team this one win over the Spurs tonight to guarantee them being in the playoffs? The Pelicans hold all of the cards here, I have no doubt that the Thunder will win, but as long as New Orleans wins they get into the playoffs. The Spurs clearly are the better team and they need the win just as well as the Pelicans do, but if Anthony Davis is the best player in the league he's gotta get them this W.

Anthony Davis might drop 40 tonight and the Pelicans will lose because Tyreke Evans, Eric Gordon and Jrue Holiday will make some stupid, stupid, stupid decisions with the basketball.
That's very possible (expected even) but we wouldn't let that slide if it was LeBron. :yeshrug:

Unfortunately for big men they rely on others to give them the ball. I can't think of any Big Man who was able to dominate without elite guards (Shaq, Duncan) or guards with experience (Olajuwon, Robinson, Duncan earlier, Nowitzki, Garnett). AD has neither.

Note : I haven't watched enough games to say AD is the best, but I know for sure his guards are far from being elite or experienced enough.

Lebron isn't a big and handles the ball almost as much as anyone else. I wouldn't say AD is the best player in the league. Still Lebron. But the team that is around him is just a clusterfukk of mediocrity and dumb decision making.

How many Pelicans games from start to finish have you watched this season?

I love the grand proclamations being made based on 1 fukking game

Its such stupid logic

So if the Pels win tonight with AD scoring 14 points, OP crowns him as top 3. If he puts up 45 points in a loss, OP declares him out of the top 3

Why the wouldnt you just take his season as a whole? He has been unreal for nearly 70 games

If he made that proclamation at the beginning of the season, then I'd be all for it. Before the season I was telling friends I'd consider AD top 5 if he led his team to the playoffs and had a strong showing there. That's the only way to make up for all the work other top 5-10 players have put in, and separate himself from stat stuffers that don't win. The fact that he's this close is a testament to his skill, so OP should give AD credit and make him top 3 if his dividing line is that thin.

And these types arguments are some of the worst things about sports. All of his work goes out the window and it comes down to 1 game against the defending champs. It also ignores the crazy number of injuries the Thunder have faced. His argument is Skip Bayless level bad.
