The level of depth in the lore for this franchise is insane. I bought the space marine game and had fun with it but was curious about the context of these characters and it's impossible to fully understand all the characters in this and their histories.

The best way to summarize it, is that it's about war itself. It's about the fact that even thousands of years into the future, there will still be fighting.

The number of factions is ridiculous. The main ones are tyranids, eldar, Orks and humans but there are more including literal demons. There's one poster here that could probably break it down better than anyone else(he'll probably show up here) but it really is like trying to answer the question of what earth is about.

So many things we know about like doom and star craft take inspiration from this universe

The emperor is an objectively cool idea for a character tho. He was born in prehistoric times as an immortal and he spent his life learning everything there is to know about...everything then when humanity was about to fall off he rolled in with the gang(thunder warriors).
