Do you think he would've got booed outta the building like The Rock did? Assuming it was still in Toronto.

I think he would have. I always wonder if he knew that deep down and thus avoided pushing for that feud.

^ like it or not, the crowd was clearly on Hogan's side.

I don't know, this city loves Austin to no end. This dude was outpopping Bret at the house shows at Skydome during 97. He would come out and stunner the entire Hart Foundation and the roof would blow off. Luckily Bret escaped the ring during all those :whew:
I personally think it would have been split, and depending on the storyline may have even swayed toward Austin. The marks to smarks ratio wouldn't have mattered since SCSA tends to unite both when it comes to him.
Would have loved to see Hogan get stunnered though. That potential pop :ohlawd:

Maybe, but probably not to the extent the Rock did.

You have to keep in mind that was Hogan's first Wrestlemania with the WWE since he went to WCW eons ago, so people were going to cheer for him either way.

On the other hand, the Rock's character was getting stale.... you thought Wrestlemania was bad, remember Summerslam vs. Brock or his via satellite appearance at RAW's 10th anniversary... he was getting beyond shytted on.

Thank based god they did boo him though, we would've never witness the piff known as Hollywood Rock.

remember reading that for the dvd's and replays they had to add in some audio so that the Rock got cheers.

Saw this on ppv live and i vividly remember how shocked i was at the crowd being so pro Hogan...it was incredible

didn't agree with Rock going over but ultimately a match like that it really doesn't matter since neither would lose their status over a loss at that point

Hogan got cheered heavily when he leg dropped austin and pinned him the smackdown before mania so yes...austin would have been booed as well

it was just out of general respect for what Hogan meant to wrestling being back in the wwf at the time...ghandi would have been booed facing Hogan that night.

Pretty crazy since Bret was hugely popular in Canada then...even more than usual. I saw a RAW taping in Halifax in 1997, the one with the flag pole match and the one where Bret got into a scrap with announcer Vince at ringside. The place blew up.

Austin/taker were booed and everyone went nuts for the Hart Foundation. Couldn't hear a damn word from any of their promos because the crowd was so loud.

Was just gonna say... don't trust certain releases of this match because I have no doubt that the 'E altered the crowd audio.

Just look at the situation...they were loud for Austin during the Hall match and the WHAT chants were over but they did BOO when Nash got kicked out. They didn't direct it at Austin. They probably would of cheered loud for Hogan but more than likely would of been dead at certain intervals for Austin. The thing with the Rock is he was hated for being too over and being clearly the most popular star in the game. Jealously was always gonna an undercurrent to him.

BTW...they did go against Austin almost weekly leading to Survivor Series 99. His injury break kind of saved him from this kind of situation at WM 16.

And no..the WM 18 match has all the audio of Hogan being cheered over Rock. They would have to erase Jim Ross' commentary to get away with anything like that:laugh: They have this match on like 3 different DVDs at least and it's ultra loud and pro Hogan except when the Rock did the People's Elbow and made everyone mark out like he always does in the end.

Oh don't get me wrong. When that guitar string would hit for Bret's theme the building would shake. But Toronto loves the badass dudes like Austin, you see this with the scrub athletes that are popular (Tie Domi for example). So they loved him just as much, but only when he wasn't beating on Bret, lol. I remember Anvil/Davey Boy and Owen all caught stunners while Bret escaped to ringside like :umad: but the crowd popped on each one. I felt betrayed by my fellow Canadians :sadbron:
Edit: Another reason is Austin never dissed Canada during the feud, he just attacked the Hart Foundation as a group, so the heat wasn't really there like with HBK.
