Virginia State University for 2 years.
Joined the Marines an eventually got my degree while in the military. (Had to pay for it some how)

Listen guys, a cac is coming into the hood to a lower middle class house. Might not have a reliable vehicle or one at all. Family in debt. Suffering from food scarcity. And this cac says look; 150k if you commit. 100k to your family. 50k to you. In your accounts in one week or less. That's free money. We stock you with food. Spruce up the house or move them to a safer place. A nice new vehicle. And that's just the beginning. Access to the best facilities, hall of fame players visit for development. A thriving social scene and NFL scouts ready to pay you millions as soon as you walk out of there. Today, you can commit to a better life for your whole family.

It's sad but most HBCUs can offer nothing but a scholarship, outdated facilities, and little or no NFL connections. Only the top tier players are going to be offered the scenario above but even 2nd and 3rd tier players can get some payouts and perks if they can round out a possible championship team.

Now, I know you might say, "Well, if these black players just went to HBCUs, they would be the powerhouses." I mean, that's true to a degree. But PWIs have such a head start that the pioneering players would be building the new order from scratch and with little to no benefit. It would take possibly decades for this movement to put them on or at least close to parity with PWIs. Who's going to step up en masse to make that sacrifice? Also, the PWIs are backed by wealthy alumni and boosters willing to put their money where their mouth is. Sadly the black community wouldn't be able to build such a network. Well, maybe one or two schools and everyone would just go there and the rest of the HBCUs would languish. Whichever school could catch up to the PWIs first would be the first choice.
