You could see it both ways

Selfish, because a person is going to allow a child to suffer in the world for their entire life just because they don't want to feel bad or be judged. And then die leaving that child to be somebody else's responsibility

But at the same time, regardless the love of a parent is so strong. And some people just see it as their child and don't really care about what comes with it because they love their child unconditionally
