It's a faith based process. I used to be a Buddhist, but still don' get it myself and been out of that communtiy for a year ... i followed the Buddhist version ...

Subsequently this Prarabdha Karma creates circumstances which we are destined to experience in our present lifetime, they also place certain limitations via our physical family, body or life circumstances we are born into, as charted in our birth chartor horoscope, collectively known as fate or destiny (determinism).[3]
