If Mark Sanchez was black, would he still be in the NFL?

He is a historically poor quarterback. Sanchez routinely led the league in picks and turnovers for 4 years in New York. He was habitually at the QBR bottom every year. His completion percentage at best mid tier and at worst bottom of the league throughout his starting time. Even today Sanchez's interception percentage is 3.6%, only 0.4% less than his pick percentage in New York. That is to say even Chip Kelly's heavenly system can't turn shyt into gold.

Knowing all of his foibles and tendencies, would Sanchez still be in the league if he were black, let alone being offered his choice of back up jobs and then starting?

Perhaps. Lots of people believe Sanchez was fukked by not having any weapons. Not saying I agree with that, it's just what some believe. Given his game experience I could see a black Sanchez getting a job holding a clip board.

Geno Smith on the other hand also didn't have many weapons but has worse experience than Sanchez. I'd imagine Geno could get a backup job but if he doesn't I wouldn't say it's because of his race...it's because he's trash. Whereas I'm more apt to think EJ Manuel will get another shot elsewhere.

I'm not going to begrudge your opinion just yet but a Black Sanchez in NY would have one of the best lines in football, a great running game and better weapons (Holmes = Decker, Keller > Cumberland, Cotchery > Kerley, etc) than Geno has right now. For 4 arduous years, that same Black Sanchez would still throw multiple interceptions every other game and otherwise make goofy turnover mistakes like the butt fumble. His completion percentage average would barely budge in that time. Moreover his YPA would remain hovering around the league's worse at 6.4, about the same as Alex Smith's earliest and worst years in SF. Taking these facts into account, I've seen the NFL throw aside black QBs with better numbers. I don't believe Black Sanchez would be given many, if any, chances.

Sanchez is no Dan Marino. Their career arcs couldn't be more different. And you are always the first loser to whine when I make a thread like this one. I wonder why?
