Been trying to guide him on the right path. College doesn't seem to be right for him. He sounds hands on more than any and I know he likes computers. He was actually studying for computer engineering or something along those lines. He doesn't have a lot of money either

I wanna drop some facts on him. What Certs would he have to take to get started? Would he have to take college courses like English and History and all that BS?

He doesn't necessarily need to sign up for classes to get the sec+ or ccna which are tests for certification. He can self-study at his pace and then take the test in order to acquire the certs. Depending on location there might be classes/bootcamps that cover the materials on the tests he can take. These certs are not like college classes or anything like that so you don't have to worry about taking bullshyt classes. Google Comptia they explain about the certifications there.

Security + and a CCNA for starters.
Yep, start with an A+, then Network+, CCNA or the latest Microsoft Server certification.

I would also strongly suggest he get a cloud cert like an AWS certified solutions architect.

I would look at Udemy.com for cheap training or download the training courses from torrenting sites.

Also Professor Messer has cramming courses on YouTube.

I don't know why I didn't think of torrenting the Udemy courses :snoop:
