No offense but why even get the cops involved. This is a situation you should be handling as a family. I wouldn't call the cops even if they didn't have a shoot first policy.

How would you handle it as a family?

what if he's sent her to the hospital before? Check the stats on abusers who kill their partners as the abuse continues.

You missed the part that I said you should be handling this as a family. What do you honestly think the police are going to do? Especially if she decides to not press charges. And if it somehow got to the point where a man put a family member of mine in the hospital, that same man would be in the hospital as well at the very least.

No I didn't, that's why I asked you how would you handle it 'as a family'. What specific steps would you take 'as a family'?

You added that part after the fact but depending on how bad it was we would make sure he wouldn't have the ability to hurt her again and if that means one of us has to take a charge so be it. Once again what are you expecting the cops to do?

Its not a back and forth, not everything is an argument. Im really trying to understand and not be combative. I wanted to know how much you're willing to risk with the details you mentioned.
Your answer in teh bold is what I was looking for. That said, the evidence you gathered in many cases would not be excuse for what some could see as vigilante or taking law into your own hands. Again I see your logic, but also considering the laws in alot of places, the risk factors can be pretty imposing based on what you said.

if you’re asking me if I would go to jail for beating up a man who was beating up a family member of mine, then the answer is yes.

I feel like domestic situations aren’t as likely to turn into a random, unarmed shooting, especially if explained prior to calling. But, I’d sort things out WAY before that. Especially if it’s a spouse or something like that...
