If Takeover sounds better, and more factual than Ether, why do you all pick it as a better song?

Even Young Guru said it was :dahell:
Young Guru is Jay-Z's mans :dahell:

Jay-Z said he showed Nas his first Tec on tour with Large Professor. Yet, Nas had a Tec bullethole wall in the wall of his old apartment in Queensbridge to this day from Nas and Jungle playing with a Tec when they were teenagers.

Jay-Z said Nas was in the game 10 years, and Jay was in it 5 when Jay was a hypeman and had tracks out before Nas dropped his Live at the BBQ verse

Jay-Z said he had one hot album every 10 year average. How? If It Was Written was multi-Platinum and had the same amount of mics in The Source as Reasonable Doubt? To this day the CD has moved 4 Million copies, influenced artists, and is regarded as one of the greatest conceptual, storytelling albums ever and a classic? I Am... had better critical reception than Vol 3 and actually sold more first week. How exactly did Nas have one hot album every 10 year average?

Jay-Z said he paid Serchlite Publishing when MC Serch already said Nas owns his publishing and Serchlite publishing had not even been established in 1996.

The vast majority of Takeover was lies, revisionist history and opinions...

Never liked Takeover "sonically", to be completely honest I skip both songs when I play The Blueprint and Stillmatic. I can't stand that Doors sample AT ALL. :scust:

@Napoleon Takeover more factual than Ether?
c0y0dJ9.png

So Jigga doesn't look like a camel? :rudy:

So KRS didn't already make an album called Blueprint? :rudy:

So y'all nikkas don't deal with emotions like bytches? :rudy:

So, in '88, Jigga wasn't getting chased through his building? :rudy:

So Jigga wasn't calling Nas' crib when Nas ain't even gave him his numbers? :rudy:

So Queens nikkas don't run his nikkas? :rudy:

I dunno how many times I gotta explain this.

Jay lost....beause Jay feels like he lost.

Which song is "better" is irrelevant in light of that. I prefer "Take Over", but it doesn't change the fact that Jay was on the radio sounding like his mom died....kept referring to the beef, well after it was over....talking about "even if I lost"....

Jay handled it like an amateur. The only strategic thing he did in the whole beef was the Summer Jam reveal. After that he made tactical mistakes left and right.

Fred.

Jay aint stupid,he knows that was the popular opinion, that don't mean he believes he lost.

Matter of fact I would say his actions show more that he didn't think he lost....he spent his next album attacking fans for the fact he thought we got it wrong:mjcry:

I would say that's where Jay lost,he broke character on the whole "I don't care about this rap shyt,I'm here for the money:win:" thing....It was a double edge sword,Jay-Z broke character but finally embraced the fact he cared about his place in history:wow:....So as a Jay fan I gotta thank the lil homie Nas for that though:sas1:

Far as when it dropped, with Nas being the underdog I definitely went with Ether cuz it caught me off guard plus the beat was crazy,I didn't give him a chance against Jay....The impressive part was the fact Nas was able to do his best Jay impression on Jay,and in rap music its not too many people who could talk down to Jay at that point and have the resume and history to back it up.

But as a diss record Takeover is still clearly the better diss record to me once the immediate shock of Ether wore off.....The concepts he used to diss Nas were way more clever, and not to mention comical and disrespectful:banderas:.

nas picks it up in I think his last verse to match Jays disrespect, and the disgust in Jays voice he used to do like almost no other when he was talking down on nikkas:pachaha:...But its a lot of Nas crying about how Jay betrayed him like they was friends or something?Jay was bringing us never before heard concepts though, double entendres, facts, rebuttals were better....Nas rebuttal to getting outshined by his bodyguard is "Well Eminem outshined you:francis:".

But I don't argue with popular opinion at this point,Ether won...mostly based on Jays ego more than anything, the ego made him care about the fans liking Ether, the ego made him have to respond quick as shyt instead of letting the Ether buzz die down, and putting a better response song together.

And I'm still convinced Jaz helped Nas with ALOT btw, most of it seems to make more sense coming from his perspective than Nas....I have no proof so I sound crazy, maybe one day we will get details on what Jaz did, until then I will wait for my vindication.

Breh if Jay didn't feel like he lost, he wouldn't have been on the radio sounding out of character.

Which is why I said he fukked up, strategically. If you compare Jay's radio appearance to Nas, it's like night and day.

You couldn't tell Nas he didn't win. You could tell he knew he won. I'm not even saying that's the reality, because it's subjective....but as the saying goes, perception is reality. If Jay was his usual self on the radio, and in subsequent interviews, and never mentioned the beef again, history would be a lot different right now. Because in hindsight, the quality of the songs aside, how Jay responded makes it seem like he got steamrolled.

Even agreeing with what you said....the fact that Jay was hurt fans thought he lost....isn't Jay. You get what I'm saying? We seen the man behind the curtain for a second. You can't show weakness in a situation like that. Especially not in the advent of the internet and soundbites and all that. I doubt Jay thought people would be laughing at his radio interview 15+ years later but :manny: the internet is like that.

Yeah I think we pretty much saying the same thing that's what I was meaning by he broke character from the "Im not a rapper" persona....And perception is reality, and Jay could see and hear peoples reactions to Ether to know he lost in the court of public opinion....But I'm speaking on whether or not Jay himself actually thought he SHOULDVE won and thought he had the better record....Him believing he had the better record wouldn't stop him from reacting to public perception,or labelmate perceptions when Rocafella staff was looking shook:mjlol:.

I just think if Jay actually believed he lost PERSONALLY he wouldn't have been as upset at the public for picking Nas as he was,I still think he retired partly just to punish us...If he believed Ether was the better track and he just lost I don't think that's his reaction, but who knows....I know he knows he lost based on public perception.
