If the Mavs had actually shopped Luka around the league, who are the teams that wouldn't have made the trade?

Spurs with Wemby
Nuggets with Jokic
Thunder with SGA
Tatum with Celtics / Bucks with Giannis (but they're probably at least giving it a consideration)

Do you think there's anyone else who wouldn't do a trade for Luka?

It’s crazy, Luka would have been on that list last week. I think Wemby, Jokic and Tatum are the only players that would be an immediate no.

Embiid is untradeable, but not in the way this thread means. I think the Celtics and Knicks balk initially, but eventually make a trade, maybe not for the first player we all think of in those respective situations.

The issue here is that Dallas went with "Luka's conditioning is bad, we don't want to sign him, etc." Once you do that, you devalue your own player and tank your own leverage. If you open the trade up to other teams, by definition you are saying you don't want the player, and people would have found out why.

Using this list is helpful:

By opening up the trade to other teams, by definition you are moving Luka down a few spots given the issues I mentioned with leverage. In that scenario, getting Davis, who was #9 in this trade value list, and the third big man behind Jokic and Giannis, may actually have been the best they could have done in terms of actual players. Other teams may have been able to offer more young players / draft picks

Take back draft picks to hopefully land a generational player when you already have one brehs

Champions league
That's about it
Every other team would offer their best player and picks

Magic would easily offer banchero, pistons Cunningham etc.

Not only is Luka young and a superstar but he fills seats

These people are crazy. No excuses for this trade. Who cares if a Serb is fat, they’re all fukking fat.

All Jeanie and Rob need to do is

1) Get this mufukka enrolled in the finest of SoCal Alcoholics Anonymous Groups
2) Get him a membership at @Mowgli dojo to get him in shape.

The problem with this is, Luka's conditioning has been a topic of discussion for years now, so it's not like teams aren't privy to that. The only real evaluation of his value would be what they perceived Luka's on-court ability to be, and because he just came off a Finals run, there'd be no notable decrease in that value. More to the point, they wouldn't be making all this shyt public to begin with, in fears that it would damage his value. They'd only be leaking this shyt after the fact to justify their decision (as they're doing now).

The other side to this is, teams will be trying to one-up one another to get him. The asking price won't be going down the more that teams dangle a more lucrative package for him. This is reflective in the Lakers managing to haggle down the asking price for Luka because they were the only team in talks with the Mavs.

Ok, let’s take the Mavs at their word that they wanted a big man / rim protector / etc that could contribute now. If Wemby and Giannis were not available, who would have been a better target?

I’m not defending the trade or what they got (they should have kept him) - I’m just not sure if teams would have been jumping in to offer a whole lot better.
