If the Mavs had actually shopped Luka around the league, who are the teams that wouldn't have made the trade?

Most of the league wouldn’t have made the trade because it would be a rental.

The Lakers will resign/extend him.

The Wizards and like 25 other teams wouldn’t be able to.

Spurs with Wemby
Nuggets with Jokic
Thunder with SGA
Tatum with Celtics / Bucks with Giannis (but they're probably at least giving it a consideration)

Do you think there's anyone else who wouldn't do a trade for Luka?

I don’t think the Wolves would trade Ant for him. Too risky given how young Ant still is. And Warriors wouldn’t trade Curry for anyone.

The issue here is that Dallas went with "Luka's conditioning is bad, we don't want to sign him, etc." Once you do that, you devalue your own player and tank your own leverage. If you open the trade up to other teams, by definition you are saying you don't want the player, and people would have found out why.

Using this list is helpful:

By opening up the trade to other teams, by definition you are moving Luka down a few spots given the issues I mentioned with leverage. In that scenario, getting Davis, who was #9 in this trade value list, and the third big man behind Jokic and Giannis, may actually have been the best they could have done in terms of actual players. Other teams may have been able to offer more young players / draft picks

This is facts. It actually would’ve benefitted the Mavs to wait for Luka to demand a trade after signing him to extension.

I don’t think Minnesota trades Antman.

OKC would trade Shia. People may not realize it but Shai (who is going to make all nba first team ) upcoming max contract extension hits the 400 million dollar mark

The answer is the rockets

Basically take your pick of their youngins except Sengun. And even then, shyt maybe Sengun too.

If I’m Dallas, I’d want Sengun and Amen, and Reed Sheppard who I still think will be a star

If I’m Houston, I would give up literally all the youngins except Amen and Sengun. So Jalen green, Jabari, Tari Eason, cam whitmore, Reed Sheppard. Maybe leave me with one those non Amen-Sengun guys and I’m good

They’d meet somewhere in the middle and use FVV/Brooks to salary match

It’s diminishing returns trading a top 10 player for another top 10 player.

Yea these replies are stupid :mjlol:

Only Houston and OKC make sense but not for SGA. It’d have to be for youth—emerging stars—-and picks. And both OKC and Houston have a boatload. But these 1 for 1 star swaps make no sense
