What will happen is he will finish out the term, trying to follow Trump's playbook while also trying to keep the support of the oligarchy. He would not win an election on his own, because he is not charismatic enough to pull it off.
What should be the real worry is any Republican that is elected next behind Trump. They now know what is possible, and will use that knowledge in a far more effective and disastrous way than Trump can. Trump needs worshippers; the next one will just be about getting the WS job done.
