If you don't do mixtapes or a bunch of features I sort of agree, but I would lower it to 70k. If you are a monster with mixtapes and do features, I don't think retail numbers are as important towards an artists relevancy. Still don't want to brick though.

Young Thug has 3 times as many IG followers as Logic, but Logic did 135k to Thugger's 37k. Young Thug is clearly the more relevant artist, sales aren't always a foolproof indication of who's more relevant than the next.:yeshrug:

if you can get 135k people to pay money for your shyt you ARE more relevant

Ehhh i don't think Logic vs Young Thug is a good example, cause Logic pretty much gets built-in sales simply by being a white decent rapper. A better comparison would be Kevin Gates and Young Thug.

It may make you not relevant to fake superficial bullshyt bandwagon fans but Hip Hop heads don't care about sales other than hoping obviously for prosperity for dope artists. It doesn't dictate what we listen to though, at all.

not exactly on topic but i honestly think good critically acclaimed albums that don't sell that well can keep an artist relevant longer than people think, lots of publications and reviews online can keep a smaller buzz going by reaching a broader audience

i don't really fukk with pitchfork, spin, nme, etc. but a best new music for kevin gates goes a lot farther for gates than a mediocre throwaway album for a guy like (insert name here of a rapper you think put out a mediocre album recently but my example will always be Fabolous whole career)
