This is not a joke, this is a real story. I just want to first say that I'm glad this man is gone. He was a terrible coach, and obviously he's much worse at other NBA related activities. So what am I talking about?
Flip fukking Saunders. Tell me this isn't the craziest deal n NBA history (perhaps)

By Associated Press,
MINNEAPOLIS — Nikola Pekovic didn’t want to leave Minnesota, and the Timberwolves weren’t about to let him go.

After weeks of negotiations, waiting and watching, the two sides came to agreement on Wednesday on a new five-year contract worth $60 million that includes an additional $8 million in incentives.

“He’s a dominating offensive player,” Timberwolves president of basketball operations Flip Saunders said in a conference call. “He plays extremely hard. He probably will work as hard as he can to live up to a contract he signs, whatever it is worth.”

After posting a career-high 16.3 points and 8.8 rebounds per game last season, the 27-year-old Pekovic was a restricted free agent when the NBA’s fiscal year opened on July 1. That meant the Timberwolves had the right to match any offer he received from another team, and Saunders made it clear from the start that they would do whatever it took to keep him in Minnesota.

In the end, that included adding a fifth year on the initial four-year, $48 million offer they presented Pekovic and his agent, Jeff Schwartz, a few weeks ago.

“With him and Kevin Love and Ricky Rubio, we’ve got three cornerstones in that franchise that all complement each other,” Saunders said.

After three seasons in the NBA, Pekovic has emerged as one of the best offensive big men in an increasingly center-scarce league. He figured to garner a lot of interest from other teams looking to add some size and scoring to the paint. He waited for Dwight Howard to choose between several suitors. When Howard signed with the Houston Rockets, the belief was that a lucrative offer from one of the teams that missed out — perhaps the Hawks or Mavericks — could be on the way.

Both of those teams decided not to
pursue Pekovic, but the Timberwolves were still left holding their breath in hopes that another team with abundant cap space like the Bucks would force their hand with a monster offer.

That offer never came. With the market settling down and the likelihood of another offer growing more remote by the day, Saunders came through with the fifth year on the deal to get it done
So with nobody bidding AFTER he tested the free agent market, he then hits him with near max $$$ :wow:
This ol' Matt Flynn type of deals ain't whoa son :smh: I guess Love or Rubio gotta go. You know its LOVE
Way to throw away your future Minnesota :bryan:

It's not that bad a contract considering how much bigs make. They didn't want to lose him & gave him a 5th year which is the only really questionable thing about it. But the 12M a year isn't bad in a league where Perk does nothing yet makes 8M & DeAndre Jordan is getting 10M & all he does is dunk.

Yeah, this guy is making more than both of them. Perk at least WAS a beast in Boston. He got paid to suck in OKC
D.Jordan while not as offensively gifted is the better center
And you seem to be talking around the fact that nobody put in a bid on him. They offered him more than any other team WOULD and he was like "let me see if others feel the same way"
When that didn't happen, that means they could pay him less. Instead they go "So nobody wants you? Here, take an additional year and 12mil :what:
I know this team will forever suck, but for them to feel like they HAVE TO sign this bum for this amount of money?
No, you can find better for cheaper. He had a career year last year, 16pts, 8rbs :blessed:

Andray Blatche in DC type numbers, but we signed him to a 5yr 15mil deal before we moved him.

Maybe Ernie deserves a lil more respect? @FloorGeneral

Nobody made an offer because he was restricted & the Wolves made it known they were going to match to keep him. They wanted to sign him long term & not worry about him bouncing on them next year. Minny has to overpay to keep people & sign people & even this isn't overpaying in terms of what bigs make in the NBA. Giving him that 5th year is questionable but he is apart of their future plans of Rubio, Love, & Pek being their core to build around.

Perk has never been a beast. Pek>>>Jordan.

Who could they signed for cheaper at center who averaged 16 & 8 last year?
