If you didn't play a sport at least into HS should your sports opinion be taken seriously?

i read some of the daily Coli posts, and it's clear to me some of yall have never been in an organized team structure, or a competitive atmosphere. Should these people opinions be taken seriously?

80% of the sports analysts who are PAID to give their sports opinions never even stepped foot on a field let alone played up until HS.

With that said, it doesn't matter if u played or not. If you've played, you have a better insight on how things go mentally for a player and emotionally but thats about it. Anyone can learn about sports by watching and studying.

Some players play because it gets them rich. Doesn't mean they are savants or even know the history of the game. Some people who never played are brilliant minds of the sport even if they weren't athletically gifted enough to make it. If I agree with an opinion or recognize that someone's opinion makes more sense, I can roll with it no matter if they played or not. I usually look for former players opinions but sometimes they say things that make me :snoop: and sometimes they can't adapt to the newer generation like people who didn't go pro can.

Former NBA player:  Jump shooting teams will never win a ring, it just can't happen
*jump shooting team wins a ring*

Fans: :what: so you're just gonna act like.......

Former NFL player:  A non pure pocket passing QB team will never win a ring, it just can't happen

It's usually fine because non athletes can understand fundamental strategies at the least and some of them have a legit understanding of the game, but it becomes a problem when they get sanctimonious about how a player should be reacting to some on field shyt like SAS and Skip do all of the time. If you ain't ever been tackled or tackle someone then don't talk about toughness or call somebody a bytch because they short armed a catch or a tackle. I didn't play baseball in high school or ever so I can't tell you shyt about how hard it is to hit a fastball, but I know Barry Bonds is the shyt at it.

This, I agree with. Especially regarding toughness, playing thru injuries, etc.
