A lot of the praise for old music is rooted in unrealistic nostalgia.

I mean I think R&B criticism is WAY more valid than Rap/HipHop criticism. Dudes wanna act like old rappers were so much more valuable in their message to the world and their communities. No one however denies that R&B has changed in both subject matter and composition.

Unless you're talking about the 80's you're a lie. Everybody knew the governments of most rappers. The main difference between then and now is back then most of them tried to down play any negativity. Nowadays every rapper claims to be living what they rap. New York nikkas was hating on Cali nigas saying they was corny and that gang shyt was fake and bullshyt, now they all blooded out and shyt.
