If you “had to get it from the mud” does that mean your parents fail you?

Folks always talk about how they had nothin… no wisdom, no food, no support, etc.

Does that mean the parents failed?

To a degree most Black people that are extremely successful likely got it out the mud, it doesn’t mean their parents failed them though.

Let’s face reality most of us Black folks not being born and left multi million dollar trust funds and shyt like some upper class and even some upper middle class Whites.

Many of them are born into generational wealth that wasn’t available to our parents.

Look at the vast majority of those jobs in the blue collar sector and most minorities are doing the heavy lifting while reporting to a White man or occasionally White woman.

My parents gave me game and a lot of foundational knowledge on a lot of life’s complexities that I still apply today, but I know there are some Whites that have a leg up on me so I have to be a lot smarter about how I move.

I say all this as man that comes from a better off Black family that owns property, investment properties, and my mother is college educated and my father was an entrepreneur most his life. It doesn’t hit the same as those White men that can make a couple phone calls and get the ball rolling with certain things though.

Its not that they "got it out the mud," its the fact that some black folks think that it is an excuse to have a condescending attitude towards other (black) people that did them no harm and never use the newfound economic status to help other (black people).

Depends on how deep in the mud. Most people think they have had it bad, but they really haven't . They claim the mud, but are really repping the bathtub.

There is a suburban breh complaining his folks didn't pass on land or a college fund while that same breh is well fed, in a good neighborhood, with designer clothes. Similarly, there is a hood breh complaining that his folks were divorced and didn't love him; while he is well fed, driven to sports programs, and his other parent has regular visitation, and gives him Jordans . So this stuff is relative.

I'd personally define the mud as as a parent who literally did nothing for you and actively tried to harm you. So unless your folks were crackheads, child abusers, literally didn't feed you, tried to kill you, etc then your parents did a good job no matter how much work you have left on your journey . They often did the best they could with their abilities and knowledge during your youth

I personally have gripes with my parents on them not giving wisdom, wealth, support, etc but I'm not gonna lie and say they failed me cause I had a full stomach every night, clothes on my back, etc and they could've easily chose not to do so . Thus, They passed the test. All those extra desires are like bonus points on the exam.

Honestly yes it’s how I know must of us as parents would be upset if we heard our kids saying something like that. It’s folks talking about they had to get it out of the mud who had very responsible parents. They weren’t in any mud.

If your parents didn't instill any hard work and discipline into your broke azz, Yes.

We're just spoiled in America. For most of the world, food daily and staying warm is major blessing. We think if we don't have trendy shoes and latest Iphone, we're suffering.

People love to blame their parent's for them being shyt, but if you living, you got a shot. That's all you need. Some people are just losers.

I'm from the projects in Louisiana. Use to dig in dumpsters and pick up cans. Now me and my 4 brothers are living well. Parents house and cars are paid off. Mine is too. Life if about perspective and what you make of it. Social media really has us comparing ourselves to rich people.
