Ever since The Godfather came out, nearly every family drama can trace back to The Godfather as the basis for how to do it the right way. Betrayal, business, family, love, revenge...the way good intentions have a way of coming back to haunt you. The Godfather got all of it right, even if it did so in a way that romanticized the mafia in America.
It's like the Hamlet of films, in the way that so many stories are derived from it (like The Lion King).
