I know this is a skit but listening to young crash test dummies who won't live beyond 25 or won't be free until they're 100 isn't the wave.
Sad part is rappers still think being the hardest person on wax will make you the most successful. Might've worked in the 90s. But Drake has been the most successful rapper of the past couple of decades. Rappers need to just focus on making catchy songs.
Somebody like Sir Mix a Lot would do bigger numbers today than Dmx the way things are trending,

And what generation of rappers set that precedent that you need to be violent and destructive to be successful?

:jbhmm:

What generation of the black audience voted with their dollars that they prefer their rappers be that way?

:jbhmm:

It wasn't the young boys

True, doesn't change anything i said though. You don't need to be the biggest gangsta to sell records anymore.

This goes back to that Prince Tavis Smiley Interview where Prince said he sang and dressed risque when he first came out cuz lots of people weren't doing that. Then in the 90s when he went full Jehovah Witness he said it was easy to leave that stuff behind cuz so many people were doing in the 90s what he was doing in the 70s.

I always laughed when rappers would say crazy things like that as a kid. shyt was funny but I still listened to the music.

Went to college, too, and worked a job paying good money.
