I am Haitian too. It took us damn near 200 hundreds to break the shackles.

"During the French colonial period beginning in 1625, the economy of Haiti (then known as Saint-Domingue) was based on slavery, and the practice there was regarded as the most brutal in the world. The Haitian Revolution of 1804, the only successful slave revolt in human history, precipitated the end of slavery not only in Saint-Domingue, but in all French colonies"

Though we broke the chains. We economically suffered.

"The French government finally acknowledged the payment of 90,000,000F in 1893. It took until 1947 for Haiti to finally pay off all the associated interest of the debt.[6] The story of the first payment - 24,000,000 gold francs – being transported across Paris, from the vaults of Ternaux Gandolphe et Cie to the coffers of the French Treasury was recorded in detail. Historians have traced loan documents from the time of the 1825 Ordinance, through the various refinancing efforts, to the final remittance to National City Bank in 1947.[4]" Close to damn near 21 billion in today's dollars. Also economic isolation from the rest of the world.

We should have kept fighting and not giving France a damn dime back.

Yeah but the Zoes chose to do something about it :mjpls: All jokes aside Ye is crazy the civil war was basically about the right to have slaves, you have the Nat Turner revolt, Malcolm X, hell if it wasn't for MLK and crew we would still be on the back of the bus. All the progress blacks have made in the US have been EARNED, most of it with the blood of what I would consider to be modern day martyrs. Short list of people who died in the civil rights movement/black power struggle:

MLK
Brother X
Medgar Evers

I mean, how you from Chicago and knowing the history of Fred Hampton and the Panthers and claim slavery was a choice. What the f*ck was COINTELPRO? Ye officially Hollywood now, where any press is good press :francis:

Because every other group's oppression was taken seriously and again, that's something out of our control. I get so sick of black people thinking they need to act, dress, talk or behave in a certain way in order for white people to change their view on them. There's NOTHING we can do to change their opinion and actions.

I do get the point about not joking about slavery, but I didn't feel it was a jab to slavery, more than it was a jab at Kayne's idiotic remarks.

It was a jab at kanye. Nobody is making a joke about it.

I get that they are making fun of Kanye's silly c00n comments. But if we want to make a real impact we need to take what he said seriously and not allow people to marginalize our struggles.

We also need to boycott Kanye to oblivion. That would send a message.
We haven't "allowed" them to do anything, they do it on our own. Again, before Kanye's remarks slavery was marginalized. That's just like staying we should stop them from being racist.

Black people have a great sense of humor.
I'm not about to pretend slave jokes haven't been done before, and that none of them were hilarious.
I can respect your reasoning if you feel in your gut that it is wrong to joke about slavery period. These people are mocking how silly Kanyes comments are.
If you are troubled by anything it should be the fact the platform is used almost entirely for nikkas to get their best joke off CONSTANTLY,and to clown each other mercilessely, often for no reason. When it could be used for a greater purpose.

I don't mind them having fun at Kanye's expense, its safe to say black people are always serious about slavery in a serious forum,or in serious conversation. Im sure plenty of serious conversation was had yesterday on the matter. Thecoli is pretty famous for this type of behavior and humor isn't it?not sure how you could be a coli poster and truly be offended by the nature of twitter. We just have less c00ns and less non blacks here.

Some of you are worried about cacs seeing the hashtag, which I suppose is a real concern with the way whites try take black satire and use it against us in a serious fashion. We all remember the "nikkas vs black people" sketch.

I understand both sides, personally I'm just not that upset by it because I understand where its coming from. But just think back to Chapelle when he made that white man laugh a little too hard with his sketches, that were much more c00nish than this btw. Just remember white people can ruin everything when you have them viewing inside jokes as outsiders.

If you don't want to have to worry about that, come to a black site like thecoli.com:blessed:

Honestly, there are some things that need to be kept in-house. Just for us. Not for the entirety of the world to see. I'm not talking about respectability politics. Just plainly a code of conduct among ourselves, for ourselves.
