I think he may have lost passion for coaching. The Kawhi situation and his wife dying probably didn’t help.
fukking retarded... man just went to the playoffs with old ass bums who all fell off years ago... his teams invented that 3 point shooting, euro ball... he's got demoted derosen as his best player and nobody else worth a damn on the team... yea i said it
pop will be just fine if he gets some players.... then again he probably gonna retire soon
So you want him to force non 3 pt shooters to shoot 3s? @Gil Scott-Heroin logic brehs
He won 5 rings in three different decades/eras, who can say that?
I think we need to respect him and leave Pop be, plus he already won by ‘embracing’ the three (2014)
Warriors Stan’s y’all... let that man be
First of all, that was 4-5 years ago, the league has changed exponentially since then - the league-average 3-pt attempts in 2014 was 21 per game (Spurs averaged 21 per game - right in line with the league-average), the league-average 3-pt attempts this season is 31 per game (Spurs only average 24 per game). The 3-ball has always been complementary in Pop's system, whereas now nearly every team centers their offense around it, and the Spurs offense no longer has that advantage they once had. They simply can't keep up with the rest of the league.
"The Spurs have typically been one of the slowest-paced teams for a while now, that doesn't explain why their 3-pt rate has barely changed over the last five seasons (21 three-point attempts per game at a 94 possession rate in 2012; 24 three-point attempts per game at a 98 possession rate in 2018). Taking into account pace, their 3-pt rate is nearly identical to what it was five seasons ago, whereas almost every team has notably increased their 3-pt activity.
Let me reiterate - when you take into account pace, the Spurs' 3-pt activity this season is nearly identical to what it was SEVEN seasons ago. "
Shooting threes at high clip doesn’t make you a good or great team
You need generational players to go with that system..their big 3 getting old hurt that team more than anything.
Did you see what happened to the Rockets last season?? That should kill all that three ball talk
You need a balanced team to win a championship
His team made it to the WCF just last year(2017)
That was TWO seasons ago, we're talking about the NOW.
The Spurs offense is suffering because the coaching staff hasn't embraced the 3-ball. Let me just put this into perspective - almost all the top-ranked starting offenses attempt 20-25 threes per game, whereas the Spurs starters only attempt 11 per game. Instead, they're taking more mid-range/long 2s (the most inefficient shot in basketball), which not only limits their scoring production, statistically, but because they're not stretching the floor, opposition defenses have less distance to cover to contest/defend shots.
Breh that was literally just last yearand I think Trading Kawhi and Danny green for a known playoff choke artist who’s still learning his own identity and losing murray is why the spurs aren’t playing up to par right now. I’m not denying the three ball isn’t important but I don’t think that’s why the spurs are suffering right now.
If you don't shoot the 3-ball at high volume (specifically your starting lineup) you're NOT going to have a dominant offense. It's as simple as that. The Spurs starters attempt HALF the amount of 3s than all the top-ranked offenses, and instead settle for more mid-range/long 2 shots - the most inefficient shot in the game - that's why they have one of worst [starting] offenses in the league.
Let me ask you this, would the Rockets have got as far as they did [Game 7 of the WCF], if they took the Spurs approach on offense - taking more mid-range/long 2s than 3s?
