Elizabeth Warren Unveils Immigration Plan That Would Decriminalize Border Crossings

Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s new immigration plan would decriminalize migration, making it a civil rather than criminal violation, following the lead of a plan by former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julián Castro.

Additionally, Warren would raise the number of refugees permitted to enter the U.S. She says she’d welcome 125,000 refugees in her first year in office and increase that total to at least 175,000 by the end of her first term. By contrast, Trump allowed less than 23,000 refugees to resettle in the United States in fiscal year 2018 — roughly half the cap of 45,000.

Generally, asylum protections apply to individuals fleeing persecution for their race, nationality, religion, political opinion or membership in a particular social group. Former President Barack Obama extended those protections to those fleeing domestic or gang violence. Warren says she’d restore that interpretation and end Trump’s “remain in Mexico” policy, which forces some migrants to await their U.S. immigration proceedings in Mexico.

To be fair border crossing was only a misdemeanor Pre-Trump.

Trump has made this problem worse by criminalizing border crossings with no plan on how to handle those in custody.

Increasing the number of refugees is another matter.

Above the fray.
Exact same for me. I had to:

- get thousands of dollars worth of vaccinations (which you pay out of of pocket)
- not break the law for at least 7 years
- have to do routine things like re-fingerprinting, submitting an updated photo, etc (which cost hundreds because they had to do it at their facilities).
- and pass a test on US history and Government that i'm POSITIVE 95% of American citizens could not pass without studying.

People born here don't understand... it is not easy at all to become an American citizen. If they get to pass all that imma be a bit salty i'm not gonna lie
....but what about the vow to "not help Black Americans" that Tariq said was a condition of entry for Black immigrants?
hehehehehehe
fukk that idiot and the fools who believed that bullshyt

Reminds me of when BLM were interrupting Bernie and Hillary in 2016. Both of whom had platforms that were crafted to appease them yet it wasn't enough.

No leadership is on display. I can't respect someone who can't say "we agree on x, but I do not agree with you on y, and that's ok. I hope I can still win your vote." If these dudes want to run on open borders and allowing everyone asylum good fukking luck. It's time to draw a line in the sand and stop letting these online activists decide you're either for 100% open borders/no laws or you're a white supremacist.

These activists are terrible negotiators. I’ll say it again. To get shyt down you have to lobby. For years I’ve been saying they have to push the Republicans as the ones to start focusing on this and lie or something and say you gonna vote for he Republicans and people are still ignorant about doing that

They should do it, then watch how half of the newly legalized immigrants instantly turn Republican.

That's the only way Democrats are gonna see how stupid it is to make illegal immigrants their main focus.

This is why I'm so apathetic towards their overall plight.

Even Obama tried appeasing them with the DREAMER/DACA thing and they STILL revolted.

You can't win against them

They're not being rational.

Democrats just passed the Dream Act in the House. A rational person would say hey let’s work on getting the Republicans to pass it in the Senate

Last month a Republican even brought up a version of a Dream Act bill that would give legalization if they had military enlistment and that had some cosponsors and some bipartisanship. Many people didn’t even hear about this cause the media didn’t report it

But man they can’t even use their Hispanic congressmen and women to address bills like this and get it passed

When they say Both parties use immigration as a political football they are correct. But they make it that way by not taking it serious. Hispanics have the lowest voting rate of any group

When low-income undocumented immigrants are living better than low-income ADOS, people must acknowledge there's a big systemic problem.

Section 1325 breh.

It was a low level offense, but still an offense. Not decriminalized. Democrats want that issue of crossing borders to be gone so they can get they hands on votes and even get them to work in Congress. Regardless of who comes in the country and w/ the evil intent they bring.

Trump ain't the sharpest knife in the drawer, who don't know that, but this issue has been going on even before he got in office. This particular caravan migration issue all began in Honduras back in 2009 when Barry was potus and Billary who was Secretary of the State at the time put her hands in they politics. I'm not on that orange-head is the "boogy-man" train when Dems are very well enabling them to come here and get benefits anyone else born here can get and pandering to them in the 2020 debates.
