New Jersey Devils' Ilya Kovalchuk announces retirement - NHL.com - News

I'm in complete shock. He just turned 30 and he's still one of the best wingers in the NHL, still in his prime and easily on pace to surpass 500 goals and 1,000 points. I wonder if the Devils front office are pulling some behind-the-scenes sh1t due to years on his massive contract. I doubt it though, seems like the NHL just lost one of their star players. Devil fans must feel awful.
