I went talked the principal last week and there were nothing but young friendly females there. I swear it looked like a very popular black church. Went to the school board yesterday and to get badged up today. Saw nothing but nice, friendly women there also. I haven't seen one brother and only a few older CAC men. The principal told me that they're in desperate need of male teachers, especially good Black men. I'll probably start Friday or Monday, 4th grade to High School. Pretty much can work or not work any day I want. Not making nearly the money I was in DC (certed up) But I love the south and Im near my family.

Anyone with teacher experience having any advice? My city is about 50% Black too.

Good luck. I did it in DC and Baltimore.

First, we all know substitute is code to most students as a vacation in the schoolhouse. Don't let them take advantage of that immediate mindset, but also recognize its the lingering feeling in the air. What ever lesson plans the teacher leaves, make sure they do it, collect the work, and leave it for her/him.

Elementary:
If they get out of hand on WWE shiit at some point, say you were emailed all their parents phone numbers...and you pull out the phone on some G shiit. Play 20 questions if you have down time.
Middle: Send them out the room to a nearby teacher classroom if they just don't seem to be paying attention after you tell them to chill. Play 20 questions if you have down time.
High school: Ain't nothing you can do. If a fight or something about to go down, hit the intercom on some :coffee:

Impart wisdom especially to those high school students, however you want to do it, without getting yourself in trouble. Tell them your story and how they need to refocus on learning all they can. Not to diminish the beauty of learning, but tell them knowledge is money in their pocket, and thus they need the basics in high school in order to get a bigger slice of the pie. Sprinkle in references they know about, so they can make a connection. You get to be a great wise man to these kids. That was always fun.

Them Lil nikkas should be coo with you. Maybe a little awe since there isn't that many black male teachers at the school, if any , at all.

As long you don't be on some bullshyt to be funny for them to like you, you should be ok.

Keep a strap at your desk breh......

Just playing.. kinda

Good luck nikka, be a role model, these young kids NEED that. If you're attractive stay THE fukk AWAY from the females. My experience in young black schools is that these "KIDS" look way beyond their age.. and some have had experiences that made them that way. You can be the cool teacher but put your foot down when you need to. Thing is, you have experience being a young black male where you can relate to them. Just show them there are better ways to be a young, black adult without the need to do the street shyt that most of them look up to. Sympathize but do NOT neglect the good ones.. the smart ones who think they got to act out to get attention most of them are neglected at home.

You're basically the man (or one of the men) of the house.. act like it.

If you can manuever your way around this gig then the amount of single mom/ teacher puss that will be thrown your way will be epic.. not saying its important but definitely a bonus.

I say this because I've thought about becoming a teacher in the past. I've dealt with school kids volunteering... I actually love kids.
