According to multiple correspondents at tonight's WWE SmackDown tapings in Pittsburgh, Intercontinental Champion Bad News Barrett suffered what appeared to be a shoulder injury, possibly a separated shoulder.

After his match with Dean Ambrose, there was a post-match segment where Barrett went down and clutched his shoulder. The referee threw up the "X" symbol and brought out WWE medics, who helped Barrett to the back. We hope to have an update later.

I'm afriad I've got some bad news…
It has been reported by multiple sources that Intercontinental Champion Bad News Barrett was injured during tonight's WWE Smackdown taping.

Barrett was involved in a match with Dean Ambrose on Smackdown, which lead to a post-match scuffle including both Jack Swagger and Seth Rollins. During the brawl, either when Ambrose was using a ladder or when Barrett was thrown into a barricade, the champ went down and was obviously in a great deal of pain. He was helped to the back by officials, but there has been some question as to whether or not he was actually hurt, or just selling the injury very well.

Wrestlezone's Justin LaBar has spoken with a backstage source within WWE that has confirmed Barrett's "severe shoulder injury" to be legitimate. While it has not been confirmed at this time, he is expected to be removed from the Money in the Bank ladder match this Sunday – a match he was heavily favored to win.

WWE.com has confirmed that Intercontinental Champion Bad News Barrett suffered a shoulder injury during Tuesday night's SmackDown taping.

WWE physician Dr. Chris Amann spoke to WWE.com about the titleholder's condition, explaining that the English Superstar " ... sustained an injury to his right shoulder when he was thrown into the barricade by Jack Swagger."

"After Barrett felt an immediate pain and a pop," continued Amann, "we brought him back to the training room and the exam showed a separated shoulder. We’re going to do some additional testing this week and then sit down with him and talk about options for treatment for this injury.”

As of yet, no official determination has not been made yet in terms of Barrett's participation in Sunday's Money in the Bank Contract Ladder Match.

Check back with WWE.com for more details as they become available. And don't miss SmackDown this Friday at 8/7 CT to see how it all went down.
