Lemme say one thing about Kanye - I think his versatility is slightly overstated. He might run through dozens of genres, but he tends to approach music in an incredibly maximalist fashion. I mean his artistic progression has been fascinating to see, but I feel like with every song, he's channeling a certain mix of emotions.

Kanye doesn't have too many songs that hit you in the gut.... so I could never rank him ahead of a Rza or an Alchemist.

His ability to re-imagine sounds is legendary though. only rivaled by RZA and J Dilla
