Good album , nowhere near the first 2 GOAT , came and went

@Bugsmoran

shyt was dope. Made anderson Paak a star

It's just different times we live in where there's so much to choose from and it's always on to the next

what y'all give it on a scale of 1 to 10?

@Kimo_bud i agree on the bolded

it didn't hold my attention like that when it first dropped but over time this album has grown on me tremendously
dre threw me for a loop with this 1; it wasn't until months later after not listenin' to it since it 1st came out that it really kept my attention

Meh.

Where the other 2 albums were landmark albums that in many ways redefined the sonic landscape of hip hop and introduced new stars the new album just sounded like modern production with fancier mixing.

In a vacuum it was alright. Had a few a dope cuts. But it really wasn't anything special. Like a 7/10

:ehh:
i wonder how this album would've been judge if we didn't have the internet like we do now and if hip hop won't as fukked as it is today :patrice:
it'd been 16 years since 2001 was released and i think a lot of people were still stuck on that album, well i know i was
time has moved on and so did dr. dre and he moved forward with a new sound on compton

Forgettable outside of great appearances by Anderson Paak and Kendrick. Dre's flow sounds labored and unnatural throughout the album. Part of this is different ghost writers but I also think it's just him not having a knack for it anymore.

Animals is the best track on the album yet Dre really brings it down with his delivery and lyrics. That first line, "I wonder why they're after me, maybe it's because I'm a b*stard, maybe because my hair grows naturally" is cringe worthy to me.

6.5/10 at best.

given the fact that dr. dre ain't really an mc, he does well imitatin' his ghostwriters' styles
but i will admit, it definitely took some time to adjust to hearin' how dre's voice sounded on some of this album because of how he spit his rhymes on some songs

animals was the shyt to me

I said it wouldnt meet up to peoples expectations, especially after the hype died down. When it first dropped everybody was on some "stop hatin! this is a masterpiece" shyt. I said cats would change their opinion once the hype dies.

I was right.

The album was basically just to introduce Aftermath artist/producers (or Death Row artist prior). Thats always what Dres album been about, other then his production.

The Chronic - Snoop, Daz, Kurupt, Nate, Jewell, Rage, RBX etc.

The Chronic 2001 - Eminem, Hittman etc.

Compton sdtrk - Paak etc.

I have to agree with everyone else, it successfully put .Paak on the map. It was the typical Dre album with the exception of the production wasn't consistent all the way through.

yeah, paak was definitely the shinin' new star on here. i'm listenin' to the album as i type this and i will say, it's really did grow on me with time
i think it was a good idea for dre to drop the g funk sound and go in a completely different direction
snoop sounded the best he had in a long time, same with x to tha z, cold187 and the game (and i'm not even a fan of the game lol)
