I'm getting tired of notes/audio logs fleshing out the story in video games.

TLOU was the last game I played that did it right. Probably because ND knew to put meaningful shyt in the game and not spam it everywhere

I appreciate it when it's done to keep the pace of the game moving but when its used as an obvious lazy mechanic as an alternative to crafting well thought out cut scenes its frustrating and cheapens the experience of the game overall.
Yes, this mechanic was used to perfection with the codecs in Doom. The entire lore was there for you to read but you weren't required to because, in game, Doomguy literally did not give a flying fukk about any of the story or exposition and was only concerned with killing as many demons as possible.
