You have a better shot to do in other genres. You can enjoy Adele if you're 14 or 54. Plus award winning gives sales bumps. An album full of love songs and feel good songs can cover a whole bunch of demographics. Aint no 50 year old white lady walking in a store and saying "hmmm, Let me see what this Get Rich or Die Trying album is about."

The more people that can relate to your music the more chance you have to sell. most of those rap albums have a monster single that made people buy them because why pay 3.99 for a single when you can pay 9.99 for the whole album?
