If you're listening to music for inspiration or game... game being game of life I actually suggest more southern/west coast MCs

Ice Cube's Laugh Now Cry Later & Raw Footage from 2006/2008
Scarface's Made & Emeritus from 2007/2008
UGK's album from 2007
Nipsey Hussle is very inspirational
Curren$y also has a lot of game in his bars

Jay is dope but there so much more out there. You've got to really open your mind and expand your horizons. A lot of MCs have been dropping gems in their bars. The more you live life and grow as a man the more you can appreciate the things you may not have understood early on.

I still see no gems he's dropping to educate the listener. Isn't that what the thread is about? Y'all listing clever lyrics. Everyone know Jay is nice but the OP said this "the gems he drops is more important than any college prof could teach". What are these gems?

a clever line is one that is delivered and lacks substance or is a simple punch

I.e lupe on the original trials and tribulations "im from a concrete jungle that'll make your set look liike Busch Gardens"

concrete jungle = projects, Bush & Garden are self explanatory and allude to the 'jungle' as he referred to in the first half of the line, yet Busch Gardens--a popular amusement park.....its simple, although theres a double entendre theres no substance, its not deep. a 13 year old kid might google busch gardens as idk if it is as popular as when i was a kid.

Now with the jigga lines....he states it blatantly "you dont know everything i do for the homies" then in the other verse he alludes "the purest form of giving is anonymous to anonymous" which is the definition of altruism--selfless concern for others meaning he doesnt do it for props or press.

Now if your aware of a few of the lowkey things that hov has done, 9/11, columbine, katrina, computers for i want to say an entire district...these werent things where he had big press coverage and his picture everywhere saying hey look at me i give a damn.

That can generate the discussion of is it better for people with lots of money to be transparent and show their support publically? especially since everyone who doesnt have millions of dollars feels obligated to judge others about what they do with theirs? Personally if
i were in the limelight, nobody would ever know i did anything at all...I might dont $50 million for childrens cancer or some shyt but you wont see me takin pictures with sick kids and doin interviews. Mayweather gets a bad rap about flaunting his money and even though the information is out there that he selflessly paid for another boxer and a former trainers funeral, out of his own pocket, the media well never show 'the soft side' of Mayweather.

So to the white fan who bought mchg and doesnt know anything about hov and some of those things he has done, they interpret the line as "i do stuff, i just dont talk about it" and some non privy fans might the line is clever and that he may be right in his words, but to people who kind of know its like "i know/understand what he's talking about"

to me thats what a gem is. If your not privy to gems they are just rocks and they can be overlooked, but those who are aware or wish to delve deeper can find susbtance there. with this example of a line, its not the best gem and its not super deep or having an abundance of substance, but its a gem.

Turn it up some for me

[Verse 1: Curren$y]
Fresh paint on the park bench
Shining in the sunlight of the morning
Under the shade of the trees, taking it all in
In the courtyard of my homegirl's apartments
Scared to play, how could you ever win?
Make a mistake, then a revision
Make them see that shyt the way you did
Some of these fools will never get it
But I still give a hundred percent, just
Consideration for the listeners
Appreciation for the livers, lifers
Henny swiggers, weed smokers, Chevy drivers
Switches hitting, steady dipping, banging oldies
Throw the set up out the window, hit my horn at the homies
Just vibing, bytch, you can't kill it
Immortals chilling, portals to dimensions
Where everybody keep it realer
On this side, we don't feel you
On this side, one of these youngins might steal you
On this side, for looking too unfamiliar
Too much like a squealer, dice shooter
Debt dealers, grocery store looters, all the same, nikka
Put into a bad position, back the coolest cat in the corner
Transform into a junkyard bulldog on them
Posers, imposters, opponents, I throw them all in one-size-fits-all boxes
Coaching, while smoking notice, a weakness in your defense
We bust it open, fitting to run it like a quarterback option
These nikkas not sharks, they just flounders, goonies in training
Surround them, then drown them, Scuba Steve blood hounding
Never found them, started from the bottom
Then I got rich, never dipped
Cause I'm so at one with my surroundings, bytch
