I'm enrolled in a computer systems course a few months back. The people on the class were chill. Including me there were about 4 ( three guys and one girl) black people in the class. As time goes one I started to talk to them I'm cool with the guys and I start getting closer with the girl. I was ecstatic to have finally meet someone who was black and was really cool. Boy was I wrong.
This girl was obsessed with people's skin tones and if someone happened to be lighter skin she'd always have to asked what they were mixed with just. She'd tell me how she wanted to adopted a mixed child when she was older (she's 21) so people will think that she has a mixed baby. She thinks racism doesn't exist anymore because "everyone can get a job" but was whining to me that she felt like the Mexicans at the 99 cent store she applied to didn't want to give her the job bc she's black.
One of the black dudes in my class is just as ignorant as her. He thinks the word ghetto is synonymous black people. There's this black girl in another class that we bump into a lot at breaks and somehow we go onto the topic of hair. The girl has long thick hair which reaches to the middle of her back and he couldn't believe it was hers and that it had to be a weave. I kept telling him yes it was hers and he said "oh, she must be mixed". The guy is just an idiot in general. He can barley spell so I know I shouldn't let what he say bother me. I was happy at first. Thought I was going g to widen my social circle with more black friends. Is it that hard to find non self-hating black people to become friends with?
