you are correct. streets of rage is an action adventure game i believe. but let me give you what that game and others really are. i think you guys are confusing my proposal of a game with this TYPE of game aka beat em up.I said nothing like that. But what is and what is not a fighting game is quite narrow. Games like streets of rage are not considered a fighting game...
Beat 'em up (also known as brawler) is a video game genre featuring melee combat between the protagonist and an improbably large number of underpowered enemies. These games typically take place in urban settings and feature crime-fighting and revenge-based plots, though some games may employ historical or fantasy themes. Traditional beat 'em ups take place in scrolling,two-dimensional (2D) levels, though some later games feature more open three-dimensional (3D) environments with yet larger numbers of enemies. These games are noted for their simplegameplay, a source of both critical acclaim and derision. Two-player cooperative gameplay and multiple player characters are also hallmarks of the genre.
The first influential beat 'em up was 1984's Kung-Fu Master, with 1986's Renegade introducing the urban settings and underworld revenge themes employed extensively by later games. The genre then saw a period of high popularity between the release of Double Dragon in 1987, which defined the two-player cooperative mode central to classic beat 'em ups, and 1991's Street Fighter II, which drew gamers towards one-on-one fighting games. Games such as Streets of Rage 2, Final Fight and Golden Axe are other classics to emerge from this period. The genre has been less popular since the emergence of 3D-based mass-market games, but still some beat 'em ups adapted the simple formula to utilize large-scale 3D environments.

Beat 'em ups, such as Streets of Rage 2, feature combat against multiple antagonists, often taking place on city streets
A beat 'em up (sometimes also called "brawlers")[1][2] is a type of action game where the player character must fight a large number of enemies in unarmed combat or with melee weapons.[3][4][5] Gameplay consists of walking through a level, one section at a time, defeating a group of enemies before advancing to the next section; a boss fight normally occurs at the end of each level.[6] However arcade versions of these games are often quite difficult to win, causing players to spend more money to try to win.[7]
Beat 'em ups are related to—but distinct from—fighting games, which are based around one-on-one matches rather than scrolling levels and multiple enemies.[8] Such terminology is loosely applied, however,[8] as some commentators prefer to conflate the two terms.[9] At times, both one-on-one fighting games and scrolling beat 'em ups have influenced each other in terms of graphics and style and can appeal to fans of either genre.[8] Occasionally, a game will feature both kinds of gameplay.[10]
Game design
Games usually employ vigilante crime fighting and revenge plots with the action taking place on city streets,[11] though historical and fantasy themed games also exist.[12][13] Players must walk from one end of the game world to the other,[14] and thus each game level will usually scroll horizontally.[2] Some later beat 'em ups dispense with 2D-based scrolling levels, instead allowing the player to roam around larger 3Denvironments, though they retain the same simple gameplay and control systems.[15][16] Throughout the level, players may acquire weapons that they can use as well as power-ups that replenish the player's health.[2]
As players walk through the level, they are stopped by groups of enemies who must be defeated before they can continue.[17] The level ends when all the enemies are defeated. Each level contains many identical groups of enemies,[14][18] making these games notable for their repetition.[14][19] In beat 'em up games, players often fight a boss—an enemy much stronger than the other enemies—at the end of each level.[2][20]
Beat 'em ups often allow the player to choose between a selection of protagonists—each with their own strengths, weaknesses, and set of moves.[2][13][15][21] Attacks can include rapid combinations of basic attacks (combos) as well as jumping and grappling attacks.[2][21] Characters often have their own special attacks, which leads to different strategies depending on which character the player selects.[22] The control system is usually simple to learn, comprising as little as two buttons. These buttons can be combined to pull off combos, as well as jumping and grappling attacks.[2][21] Since the release of Double Dragon, many beat 'em ups have allowed two players to play the game cooperatively—a central aspect to the appeal of these games.[2][11][13][21][23] Beat 'em ups are more likely to feature cooperative play than other game genres.[24]

first off, yall fighting game lovers aint looking for a next gen fighting game. yall are looking for an original TITLE. there's a difference. you would be cool with yet another rendition as long as its the NEXT rendition of SF or MK. Or maybe you'll be cool with a new version of either with different characters.
The truth is, all fighting games played almost identical, except for killer instinct to some degree. but thats still a rehash, a darn good rehash.but a rehash nonetheless.
My question is this. When are they going to take fighting games to the next level. No more 2d side ways only fighting with a 3D backdrop with a few cool props that break down during the fight.
and i dont want just some crap where you can side step a hit some what in 3D.
No. Open the game up. there are no "arenas" per se. You fight where you find the next challenge.
online. there are computer fighters that are very strong, tactical. but there are all online players awaiting your arrival or may just run up on you in an open world environment. You can jump people. fight 1, 2, 3, 4 at a time. 2 on 2, 3 on 1. doesnt matter. everything is fair game. since its 100% 3D open world.
lastly when it comes to fighting moves. the combo SYSTEM is out. no more systems when it comes to combos. if you want to link moves together. you have to know and learn how to do it manually. no help or cpu assistance. you know when you press up up down A, semi circle Y + RT. all together making it a combination that actually does more then 2 moves. it does multiple. nope. thats out.
if you want a combo. you do it yourself. there will be knees, feet, lets, shin, elbows, fist, forearms, head(head butts), hands, weapons, and obviously special powers (no one starts out with any, you earn some thru fighting and you find some thru exploration of the game. everyone fighting style starts off the same. just basic street fighters with no real skill. some quicker then others, but with little stamina. or little power. some all power, low stamina and low speed, etc. you have to find dojos to be trained in different styles. you can mix and match styles. doing this will unlock those moves. you want to get your BJJ on. find the BJJ dojo. but to find it, you might run into a few fighters. you want straight kung fu. head up to the top of the mountain and get that dojo training for kung fu. you want to mix the two.. cool. you do one, then do the other. Or if you want to be a specialist in one or the other. you keep finding higher and higher belts(in other dojos of the same art). and keep studying in the same art. you keep unlocking moves and more powerful moves.
and you cant tell how high someone is rated in their art form(s) until they hit you with something real. they can hide it if they like by keeping it simple. or they can hit you with something you wont forget, taking a 3rd of your power in one o two hits. but to know what they are. you also have had to study in that art form. otherwise you will be clueless to what it is. you could still beat them if you're cunning enough but it will be an uphill battle. as it should be.
^^THIS my friends, is a NEXT GEN fighting game. and it aint never coming out. because yall love the same stale fighting style combo SYSTEM and sideways look. Until everyone stops being content with that. nothing will change and we will be on SF23
fighting games actually have stories. not having one does not keep this game from becoming a next gen MMO beat em up. that has never been the distinction. as a matter of fact, fighting games almost always have better stories than beat em upsyou are correct. streets of rage is an action adventure game i believe. but let me give you what that game and others really are. i think you guys are confusing my proposal of a game with this TYPE of game aka beat em up.
The game i propose is not a beat em up game. because there's ZERO story line. you are not trying to get REVENGE for something. sure they could add that element in there to make a bogus story mode like they did with titan fall. but that wouldnt be good enough for people who actually enjoy a legit story mode anyway. so i wouldnt even go there. NO STORY MODE AT ALL. you fight real people and cpu characters. just like in fighting games you can fight a person at your house in real life or a person online. or the cpu. no difference.
i would actually take to one more level. some of the cpu fighters will be GREAT and beyond difficult to defeat. not because of CPU cheat. but because they have the AI Dna of a real tournament fighter. meaning, just like i said how some cpu fighters will actually be human created fighters like forza(when the person is off line their guy still scraps like how he would normally fight). i would take that same fighting AI from real life tournament level gamers. meaning i would give them a crack at the game a month prior to its release date. to let them get acclimated to the game. then have them fight one another and save their tendencies and apply that to some of the cpu characters you see walking around in the open world. so even that cpu experience isnt generic and stale. if you beat one of those characters you will learn how to defeat a real tournament level human player.
again ZERO story mode. non. The only object is to Kick A... and Take names(literally, i would have it so everyone has one of those chinese scrolls when you look up someones info and it would show you who they beat. Take it to the next level. if you beat someone thats above you in a particular art form. or has an art form you dont have. you will be alerted "would you like to steal their abilities." meaning now you have opened up those moves as well. you still have to train to learn them. but they are now there free of charge. without you having to get to a dojo to get them. and if you beat someone with actual powers. you can take their powers. and that has nothing to do with if they are higher or lower then you.
now thats the only twist to it thats starting to go outside of the normal fighting genre. That would force everyone to constantly fight one another to gain their powers back or gain other peoples powers. you will constantly have non namers fighting the big fish to steal their powers. you will always have two big fish scrapping it up trying to gain each others powers while also stealing it from their opponent.
you know what i meant NZA. i'm talking about a wack story line thats completely taking over the game.fighting games actually have stories. not having one does not keep this game from becoming a next gen MMO beat em up. that has never been the distinction. as a matter of fact, fighting games almost always have better stories than beat em ups
i dont know what you mean because stories never played an intrusive part of either genre. both beat em ups and fighting games let you just play the game until a predictable milestone had been reached, for fighting games that was a time out or knock out, and for beat em ups that was the end of a level. they are both arcade genres, so story intrusion is naturally minimal and easy to ignore so i still dont know how this is important at all.you know what i meant NZA. i'm talking about a wack story line thats completely taking over the game.
yes every game technically has a story line if you dig deep enough. sure SF had one. we know MK had one(not a bad one either).
but all in all. you are not playing those games for some "story mode". you are playing them to beat the cpu or to beat a human or to practice so you can beat the cpu and a human. thats it.
the game i described would be just like that. you play to train so you can beat up some cpu player or some human. thats it. all fight. the only time you're not fighting is when you're going from dojo to dojo. or when you're strolling to meet someone for a fight. thats it. The open world just makes it SEEM as if you have a lot more places to fight. then the few they give you in these fighting games. cause like i said. the moment you start swinging. is the moment the area you're in becomes that old fighting area/box just like the old classic fighting games. you cant go but so far when you are fighting someone. you two have to stay within reach of one another.
New Mortal Kombat AND Tekken at E3? I might feint brehs..
