... Isn't just that "healthy food costs more". Because it's kinda not true. Yes a variety of fruits/vegetables/tasty whole grains will run you more at the grocery store than the cheaper items, but overall its way cheaper to cook a simple, balanced meal at home than to blow money on fast food.
The real link I say is lifestyle, and the fact that people in these demographics often have stressful situations that cause them to turn to the convenience of fast food.
Think about it: When are you more likely to eat like crap, if you're rested and clear headed, or tired in the middle/towards the end of a shytty day and just wanna say "fukk it" and go to that drive thru/call the delivery man? Considering many low income households are single parent homes, or even if they have both everyone has to work long hours to get by, I'm thinking that may have more to do with it than just pointing a finger at McDonalds and saying "cheap calories are making Americans fat".
