Clearly these figures are not adjusted for inflation but this is to give an idea of how much prices have changed/inflated within the past forty years.

The median income is great considering that the vast majority of people during this time did not receive a post secondary education.

The prices of cars and college have been overinflated at this point. Amazing how much the average costs of every day items has undergone such a significant change.

It's because we've become a credit/debt based economy where loans allow prices of homes/cars to rise since most don't buy outright anymore. Stupid. Just like student loans have allowed college to become mostly unaffordable.

Check otu the documentary Ivory Tower. The whole reason college is expensive is all these schools started hiring deans that want to run the colleges "like a business," so they start spending $100 millions on flashy bullshyt like expensive perks and rec centers.

The actual cost of your education and professor salaries hasn't inflated your tuition.

This is a lot like the argument conservatives use to say poor people aren't poor because they more TVs than they did 50 years ago. That's because 50-60 years ago a TV cost as much as a decent used car because the technology was still new.
