How are they losing so much money? Isn't it just a basic ass studio?

I think they invested way too much money on the talent side and then started greenlighting everybody and their mother's podcasts

The listening base never materialized so they were not able to recoup money through advertisements

Beyond the profitability (or not) of podcasts, I think what we have seen is that there's a large constituency of "music fans" who don't actually like music that much, and are much more in it for the drama and gossip. Podcasts service that interest very well without the pesky art getting in the way

Podcasts, the IRL streamers…. YouTubers. Definitely have tapped into the listeners…. Folks in denial if they think otherwise.
