In all rap history, when did Hip Hop REALLY start sounding dope to you?

It's all dope 80s etc.

(At the end of writing this it's 1991 or 1992 for me)

However I think Onyx - Shifty in March 1993 is when the production and rap delivery really started to get complex and dope.

Or Wu Tang - Cream and Tearz - Nov 1993

Tribe Award Tour 1993

Or Lords of the Underground Here come the Lords - 1993

Pac - Keep your head up - 1993

KRS Return of the Boom bap - 1993

But it may be Tribe - Low end theory - 1991

I have to revisit it. But when I heard it, it was 2 years ahead of it's time.

Or Dr. Dre The Chronic for High Powered - 1992

Then Company Flow - Bad Touch example 1997 - crazy dope.

End of 92 and into 93 like you stated...there's some acts who's pre 92 stuff didn't sound ancient (Tribe) but the jump from 92 to 93 was pretty major

The Chronic was December 1992, that was a MAJOR before and after event for hip hop

Next major jump was 1995. Lot of 93-94 ish sounds dated by 1995, and damn near old af by 1996.

Compare dah shinin (early 1995) to OB4CL that came out about 8 months later.

By 94-98 the sound was changing by the year pretty much.

You right about Tribe's stuff sounding ahead of its time. Their 90 & 91 stuff can easily pass for 93/94

Thank you.

You know the underground era of 1997 to around 2004 was my favorite.

Mf Doom, Arsonists, Non Phixion, Cormega.
Wu Tang, Redman.

It was like the innovated on 94 - and perfected.
Like not too much.

I learned to appreciate the South, Texas so much more in rap.

But when the rhymes literally became incoherent - around 2012. That's not hip hop to me at all.

Or it's regression.

In the Fugees Score album Pras said I'm sure ppl got sick of sucking dikk in 1995 and that almost ruined 1995 music for me. Like how could he make that statement on what became the biggest rap seller in 1996.
