They've had these "Don't shoot, I want to grow up" billboards plastered in various places for at least the past two years. Chicago hoods have been violent for as long as I can remember (and I'm 30), so part of me wonders, why in 2012 is Chicago all of a sudden being painted as this terror zone?

The violence in Chicago has escalated in recent years.

By the stats, a black man is more likely to be killed in Chicago today than anywhere in America.

By the stats, a black man is more likely to be killed in Chicago today than anywhere in America.

Right now, we're at a little under 500 murders so far this year. I just watched the documentary about HS bball star Ben Wilson, who was killed, and he was the 669th murder victim that year...and it was 1984. In the 90s, Chicago was averaging 700-800 murders per year. I think the only reason people are even talkin about it is because these nikka are no longer staying confined in the hood, and you might see them venture downtown or some shyt.
