They need to figure out how to reach the old people.

Study: Boomers share fake news nearly 7 times more than adults under 30

In a new study, researchers at Princeton and New York University found that people aged 65 years and older were nearly seven times more likely to share intentionally false stories – fake news – as those who are 30 years old or younger.

According to the authors of the study:

"Conservatives were more likely to share articles from fake news domains, which in 2016 were largely pro-Trump in orientation, than liberals or moderates. We also find a strong age effect, which persists after controlling for partisanship and ideology: On average, users over 65 shared nearly seven times as many articles from fake news domains as the youngest age group."

A friend of mine pointed out to me that those people grew up in an era where you could usually trust things you saw in print. They've never had practice or education in how to tell real news from fake news.

It's a good point. It's easy to blame kids and schools, but it's current adults that are the problem...that lack critical thinking skills...that approach politics like its professional wrestling...that stare at their phones while they should be talking to their kids. That's where they're learning this behavior from. Expecting schools alone to fix this is just more of the same....more thoughtless adults passing the buck. And, frankly, by the time these kids become adults twitter will be ancient.

I work with people who chide students all day long for staring at their phones, and then turn around and stare at their phones through entire meetings
