in hindsight, should jay z have stayed retired after the black album was released?

no, off the strength of american gangster alone

i was just thinkin' how he basically was at his commercial peak and 1 could argue his artistic peak (i think reasonable doubt is still his best, artistically speakin')

jigga's flow on "threat" off the black album though! :damn::whew:

american gangster ain't got no song on it like "threat" where jay is damn near blackin' out:wow:

He did make a big deal about his retirement, so he should have stayed retired. On the other hand he was only 34 or 38 according to Nas. Most of his music after TBA was meh (except for AG) but even that is kind of overrated.... He dikkirdes a movie for 15 tracks and tells :duck: about his drug dealing past.
He is one of the greatest either way :yeshrug:

Was Magna Carter an attempt at making art-rap?

I personally know an artist who heard that album, thought it was going to be the next sound. Called up his producer and said "we need to get started on this" finished a full-length project in 6 months and then ended up scrapping the whole thing and going with something else because the sound never caught on

Yup

It's my 3rd fav Hov album, so I'm glad he came back. Watch The Throne was another great album to add to the collection, and the concert was godly :dj2:

For him, I think finally getting his first #1 song with ESOM, and becoming the artist with the 2nd most #1 albums (1st on solo artist list passing Elvis) probably made it worth it alone.
