For those who don't know, Chris Lighty got his start from carrying crates for Kool DJ Red Alert. The clubs Red Alert use to DJ at back in the late 80's (Union Square and Latin Quarters), Chris, who was known as Baby Chris back then, would have his Violators crew patrol the parties and hold down Red. He then went on to become road manager for Red Alert's blood relatives the Jungle Brothers. This spiraled into him managing the whole Native Tongue collective (Tribe, Dela, JB's, Black Sheep, Chi Ali) On this particular show, you'll hear a "Baby Chris" Lighty promo for Red Alert and Jeff Foxx "You now in full effect and on point with the livest show on radio with the violators and J Foxx. Woooord Up!" Baby Chris

Just listened to the range of artists in this mix. You had JVC Force, Jungle Brothers (who's DJ, Sammy B, takes over the mix midway in the show), Boogie Down Productions, Public Enemy, Biz Markie, Stetsasonic, EPMD, De La Soul, Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, Doug E Fresh etc) It was a lot of different personalities to choose from back then.

I like stuff like this. Its like a time capsule from a different era. My earliest radio era was when Brandy & Mase 'Top of the World' hit rotation. I was into music long before that and would hear much older tracks in rotation but as far as the period when I was radio heavy lasted from then until end of the Hot Boys run. So about 98 - 2001. I continued much longer & still listen to radio nowadays but as far as the era when I was actually dubbing tapes off the radio that was my era.
