In retrospect: Frank Ocean - "Channel Orange" ; overrated? underrated? appropriately received?

Appropriately received; people will think it was overrated/overhyped because of the gay shyt but the album was actually heat rocks and inventive on many levels

Grossly overrated like 90% of modern music that is falsely labeled as R/B, Soul, etc.. The Cleopatra joint was creative enough for me to give the album a crack. Admittedly the Odd Future hype was at full throttle and his connection to them added to the hype. Then there was the White Jesus Nas rumors, etc.. A lot of hype and promotion was tossed out there on this dude, and I mean everything but the kitchen sink was used to give this dude credibility. Who he crafted songs for, and what have you. His album though, mediocre at best.

I liked about 5 songs....those 5 were really strong though. I think Frank Ocean is really talented, but what the fukk happened to him? I always had Weeknd over both him and Miguel, now both have easily lapped him. Dude vanished. I wonder if there is some 'he couldn't handle the fame' sort of story to it.

Nah, he said earlier in the year he was dropping an album in July, shyt passed but he's working on something.
