I never watched anything besides the playoffs before. Ive always followed football year long but not basketball decided that was a mistake and I should watch it year round. :manny:

No need to explain, I was just fukking around. I'm an NBA head, but would probably be considered a casual NFL fan.

To answer your question, I'm not sure what has changed in the NBA recently that would make a 6 seed more valuable than a 4 or 5. Have they been more successful in the playoffs in recent years? That's the only way I could see this being a debate or anything. Like if the numbers have shown that 6 seeds win more playoff series than 4/5 seeds over the last so many years. Even if that was the case, I would just chalk it up to a trend.

It just hit me. You're asking this because the NBA doesn't reseed after each round. I still will say that the 4/5 seed is more valuable. There are too many factors involved to say that you are better as the 6 than the 4/5. If you are trying to avoid the number 1 see until the conference championship, well, the number one seed is not always the best/ most feared team in the conference. Then you have the match up variable. Some teams match up better against others, regardless of seeding. 4/5 has higher chance of home court advantage if there were to be upsets in other series.

Yea I was just thinking if you had the 6 seed then you could avoid Golden State and Cleveland until the conference finals and pray that they somehow lose before you even though its unlikely. Since the difference between the 1 and 2 seeds are so huge this year playing vs 3 then 2 might be at least an easier path to the conference finals than playing vs 5 and 1. I think Im probably wrong somehow but I was just curious

who's your favorite player?

I've always liked LeBron for his Buckeye ties so he's my favorite player and I rooted for him during the Miami years and Cleveland years playoffs finals etc. so probably Kyrie,LeBron, and Wade are my favorites . Before I just liked the most famous and obvious players like Kobe LeBron Steph Durant etc and random Buckeyes who I followed in college basketball. But now I'm actually watching more than the finals etc. so I'm appreciating people that I didnt even know existed until recently. I wish I followed basketball my whole life like I did football but its fun to have something that feels new.

the only difference in the 6th seed vs 4 or 5 is if you get to lose to the warriors or cavs in the conference finals instead of the second round if you make it,

The correct answer is that the 3 seed is more valuable than the 4 or 5 seed since the same abovementioned principles apply but you also get the benefit of home-court advantage in the first round.

There's a chance you get lucky and they have a player get hurt by the time they play you in the conf. finals

That wouldn't make a good thread because it's obvious a higher seed is better than a lower seed. Except for what op is talking about. Is the 6th seed better than a 4th or 5th seed?

I've been thinking about the same thing with the Grizzlies.

All this time I've wanted a shot at the 4th seed for homecourt advantage in the first round and have been frustrated we can't get out of 6th. However looking at our history homecourt's never really mattered since we've always managed to steal a game, it's just defending homecourt that's been the problem (Game 4 vs Thunder 2011, Game 7 vs clippers 2012, Game 6 vs Thunder 2014, Game 4 vs Warriors 2015)

Although the Jazz or Clippers would be an easier matchup I still think we can take the Rockets

This doesn't make a good thread either. Anybody else require my services while I'm here?

It's a pretty fair question. As a Wizards fan of course I'd want the 2 or 3 seed but I wouldn't mind the 6 because I'd feel confident we could compete with whoever has the 3 seed (1st round) and then 2 seed (2nd round). Then, see the Cavs in the conf finals and hope they're a bit banged up.
