In what real world scenario could America make Canada a state?

Canada is the 2nd largest country in the world and is significantly larger than the U.S. is size.
It doesn't even make sense to make Canada 'a state'.
I could foresee the U.S. maybe purchasing a portion of their Northern territory (that's mostly unpopulated) if there were some resources available there.

As the poster above said they could purchase a portion of Canada. I would assume the territories that are damn near uninhabitable would be the most likely scenario.

Another possibility would be war. Another could be trading territory like Alaska for example. Alaska has too many resources so I doubt that happens.

Of course it makes sense, but not a state but multiple states, probably as the weather warms up and Florida and Texas have to be abandoned, probably during the water wars

Dallas, Texas but living in Houston, Texas
It doesn't make sense and it will never happen. The only way it could have happened was during the war of 1812 when the United States actually did invade Canada.

Puerto Rico, America Samoa, or the Virgin Islands has a better chance of becoming state's.
